Sins & Vices – All those Bad Things We Do

What an exhausting pace I’ve been keeping this term. My photography course kept me hopping and with all that tumbling after me, here we are at the end. My final project is officially finished, turned in and has been graded (although grades have not been posted as of yet.)

Three weeks, over 1,700 photos and it is all narrowed down to these: the final 12.

Enjoy,

A Very Conan Christmas

We at Clockwork Creation Machine have decided that it really is time for a new face on Christmas. No more Santa and his shining reindeer. No more dancing Frosty with his silk hat. No more Jack Frost or that annoying Heat Miser… No more cheesy happy-go-lucky Christmas BS!! And what better spokesperson is there for a sacred holiday than Conan the Barbarian… Or should I say Conan the Christmas Barbarian?

Christmas with a Biting Wit and Deadly Sword

Now, wait. Before you judge, think about this: Nobody parties like King Conan. Seriously! Check out that feast and those dancing girls. I mean, the guy slaughtered a plastic, mechanical dragon in Red Sonja! Nothing says Holiday Cheer like the blood of robotic enemies!

Beyond that, imagine how his leathers would be accented by a big, red hat and some fluffy white fur. Instead of a sword, we could give him a candy cane and let’s not forget the pointy shoes?

Now, if these arguments don’t persuade you look at the man behind Conan. Old Arnie is the 38th Governor of California. If L.A. with it’s plastic smiles, bejeweled palm trees and fake tans doesn’t say Christmas, I don’t know what does. Besides, Arnie and his wife always seem so happy and full of life. (Well, life-like anyway.)

Granted, there are a few drawbacks like that long-fought battle between Father Christmas and the Christ Child in Austria or the fact that Conan isn’t always the warmest fellow (and forget about those warm Christmas Hugs), but I don’t think those things should stop Arnold from really getting down with the holiday spirit.

So, who’s with me?

Two More Weeks…

Again, a busy two weeks shooting and another two weeks of busy holiday events! Take a look!

First was a contrast study with a variety of low, average and high-contrast images.

Graveyard Moss - Low Contrast

Then we played with a variety of creative depth of field techniques.

There was a small concert for the local elementary school this past week and I snapped a few pics off from that.

Finally, I was slated with doing a study on the sins and vices of human nature. This week we started with gluttony, but fell into a little greed and wrath, too!

And that’s all for now. Hope everyone’s having a great December!

Pretty as a Picture

This weekend finds me busy. Family, friends and lot’s and lot’s of work requests (scholarly and otherwise!) So, in lieu of a long, detailed post, here’s a few samples of what’s been going on!

A few apples and pomegranates I had laying around made for a really striking piece! Couldn’t have planned it better with the cool greens of the french pottery!

Many Thanks!

There are many things in our lives that we take for granted. Well, today, Thanksgiving, would be the day to really sit back and look at the things we’re thankful for… So, here’s a short list of serious, silly and frivolous things I’m thankful for this year :D

I’m Thankful…

… that fish don’t have feelings (especially shellfish, because they are so damned tasty!) :D

… for every single sick day I’m allowed to take off from work, whether I’m sick or not…

… that my children learned how to wipe their own butts and put on their own shoes ;D

… that McRib is back for yet another year (via @_Abomination_ )

… the corseter was willing to negotiate a price for the black & white PVC underbust I’ve been lusting after (Thank You whatever god you’re willing to call your own!)

… for Pravana and their amazingly, long lasting, vivid-color hair dyes!

… that I finally decided what I wanted to go back to school for and am working towards making that happen.

… for every gift purchased for me off of my wishlist! (Thank you all!)

… that little Tessa decided to announce she was a lesbian (lipstick, thank you!) by bringing her girlfriend home to meet the family for the holidays (because it makes everything I did last year pale by comparison!)

… that Dr. Prayson made me sign away my dignity, privacy and certain rights to my image in exchange for the ability to walk again.

… that I’ve a job that provides money (which I find to be a wonderful thing, even if the job isn’t always ;D)

… for Peppermint Ice Cream & Milk Nog (things I only really eat this time of year)

… that Doctor Who has gone back on the air (even if it is in sporadic specials I have to scury to find :P )

… for my beautiful black Cat, who loves me best a cat can :D

… for my little baby Pig, who is the most loyal and loving pooch I’ve ever had in my life.

… that Guinness exists… That Irish Cream is available, Disaronno is around and Tequila was invented!

… that I’ve got my TiVo with lifetime service :D

… for my friends, few that they are, and all the joy and sorrow they’ve given me. I wouldn’t trade it for the world :)

… for my children, who are healthy, happy and loving.

… for everything that is right in the world. Let’s hope there’s more to come ;D

Location Scouting… Again!

image-126

Last weekend was a combination of location scouting and generalized shooting. Now I’m armed with a slew of new places to photograph and a lot of new ideas for pieces I didn’t have before.

Of course, nothing else got done last weekend, so it’s time to buckle down and get to work! No more playing… at least not for a day or two!

image-127

Until next time,

~H

P.S. Bonus points if you can tell me where these were taken! :D

Seasons Greetings?

Here’s the first in the 4-part series illustrating the change of the seasons. Can’t wait to finish up the other 3!

Keep your eyes peeled: Lot’s of changes are happening around here! (I mean, obviously, all previous posts are gone and the entire site has undergone a major overhaul, but even more changes are to come!)

~Ciao~
