In Honor of El Dia de Los Muertos, the fam decided to decorate some delicious skull shaped cookies! I couldn’t find a skull shaped cutter anywhere in Kansas City, so we made one out of steel flashing. I created the die line and procured the materials, dad helped shape the cutter and the girls and I made the dough and baked the cookies.

Then, Jas and I put the initial frosting layer on. We chose to use royal icing because I really wanted to be able to draw on the cookies rather than pipe the features on. Then, I decorated the cookies using roled fondant for the flowers, edible markers to draw the designs and a little help from my girls!
I think they turned out pretty good!

Originally, I’d planned to serve them as snacks for the Girl Scout meeting because it was to be held on El Dia de Los Muertos, so I created some nice handouts to go with them explaining the holiday with a color-&-cut skull mask on the back for the girls to play with. However, the meeting was moved at the last minute, so the cookies ended up being eaten by us and taken to work!

Ingredients:

• 2 oz Yellow Chartreuse
• 1 1/2 oz Blue Curacao
• 1/2 oz Brandy, spiced
• 1/4 tsp ground Cloves
• 1 dash Nutmeg
• 1 dash Allspice

Directions: Shake all the ingredients together with ice. Serve in a chilled glass.

Tituba, a slave and social outcast, was singled out along with two others as the first of Salem's witches. After severe beatings and a promise of freedom upon cooperation, Tituba confessed of practicing witchcraft. She was then put in prison, where she stayed until she was sold and taken from Salem. Her freedom was never granted, nor was she ever tried for being a witch, since she had confessed outright. Read more here.

Tituba

Ingredients:

• 1/2 oz Vodka (raspberry infused, if you prefer)
• 1/2 oz Raspberry schnapps
• 1/2 oz Midori melon liqueur
• Splash Lime juice
• Splash Grenadine
• Fill with 2/3 Sour mix
• Fill with Soda water

Instructions: In a tall glass with ice, pour vodka, midori and schnapps. Add a splash of lime juice. Fill 2/3 with sour mix and the rest with soda water (or seltzer). Stir gently (to preserve fizz). Top with a splash of grenadine.

Ingredients:

• 1/2 pint hard cider
• 1/2 pint lager
• 1 shot Blue Caracao

Directions: Mix in this order: Cider, Lager then Curacao.

Serve chilled in a tall glass.
